overview
  • Great value grounding solution with performance way beyond its price

  • Use between equipment casework and the grounding point on one of our sockets, or to an external ground rod for even better performance

  • Selective RF Filter technology

  • High-quality, nickel-plated binding posts

What is the RF Router?

Grounding the metal casework on your system, by running an earth cable to an earth terminal on your mains socket, PowerBlock or even an additional earth spike, can bring real sonic benefits. By introducing the RF Router to this setup you'll improve its effectiveness even more and, if you're using an earth rod, bring it up to current electrical wiring regulations.

Who should use the RF Router?

Every system that incorporates an additional, external earth rod that is connected to the mains earth should use an RF Router fitted inline between the rod and the earthing point.

The RF Router can also be used very successfully even if you don’t use an external earth rod. Use it to link the casework grounds of your CD player and amplifier, for example, to the earth terminal on the front of our sockets, or our mains extensions, to ground casework ‘RF’.

Read our Guide to System Grounding

The Router works by separating off RF grounding, effectively 'dumping' high frequency noise out of your system. In use in our systems, the RF Router brought about a surprisingly large improvement in sound quality giving a cleaner sound with less 'hash', more solid bass and better soundstage width and depth.

You will need cables to connect your component casework to the RF Router and to connect the RF Router to a grounding point. Click here for standard ground wires or, for even better performance, we recommend using our Technical Ground Weave - click here for details.

Multiple connections

All RF Routers feature terminals that can accommodate multiple connections – Bananas, Spades and Cut & stripped.

This is extremely useful if your system consists of multiple power amps, subwoofers and our PowerBlocks which incorporate an earth terminal as we recommend these are connected directly to the Router.

Shown right, the Router can accommodate four, 4mm Banana plugs for example.

It took me about 10 mins to install the router between a SuperSocket earth terminal and my new earth rod. I'm really into acoustic guitar at the moment so my first choice of CD was Paco Pena's Fabulous Flamenco! and within the space of half a track I knew that whatever the router does and however it does it the result is quite astonishing.

My initial reaction was that the sound was just so "relaxed", as though some strain & stress had been taken out of the reproduction. I find the effect quite hard to describe, it's sort of subtle and profound all at the same time. The maestro's mastery of his instrument was transparent and the guitar gained both in texture & fine detail (if I didn't know better I'd say that it now sounded like two guitars playing rather than one!). I could hear more notes & decays were wonderfully prolonged.

I played the whole cd right through a couple of times, forgetting that I had intended to watch last night's World Cup match, and then indulged in a bit of Kraftwerk's Tour De France. I listened to that twice as well, finally going to bed at 2am quite beguiled by the whole experience.

Of course there is always a temptation to want to believe that having spent c£200 on an upgrade the result justifies the expenditure, but in this case I think that this understandably favourable expectation is entirely matched by the outcome. And if it is an illusion, it's a delight and it's got me convinced! As you predicted, I LOVE it! So, it's Rodrigo y Gabriela next... WOW!

Mr A Reay, via e-mail.

Only last week I took delivery of your new AC-24 power supply and RF Router.

With the TT PSU, early impressions are of a more solid bass and improved detail across the whole soundstage. I expect this to improve further with time.

As for the RF Router, I can only say WOW!!! Having initially played the Stones Gimme Shelter to test the AC-24, I then connected the RF-Router between my Power Block with Ultra Sockets and external earth spike. From the opening bars of the same track, it revealed yet another layer of previously hidden information in the track. I was quite struck about two thirds of the way through to hear a piano accompaniment I've never heard before, and I've played this track hundreds of times. I've only ever heard it previously when seeing the band live in concert. Well, now I can hear it in the comfort of my own living room.

"Phenomenal Improvement"
In my system, on which I had already spent thousands of pounds on power cables and mains conditioning, the improvement was dramatic. A real increase in immediacy and sense of actually being present, very obvious in classical music. You just feel that you are in the live venue. The effect was obvious, and increased with every extra bit of equipment that I connected. And after two weeks, it suddenly all improved even further, presumably as the wires and/or router were "burnt in". This is by far the best value upgrade I have ever purchased. My connections were all made with cheap speaker wire, and I am looking forward to hearing the effect of the technical weave I have now ordered.

"A Perfect Upgrade For My Linn Lk Systems"
Two Rf Router are in my three Linn systems, tha main one is Linn three amp's active Ninka and Rega RP6 turntable with RA 24AC supplier, Linn Karik/Numerik and Linn Kremlin tuner, the second one is active LK85 that run Majik109 , the third on is Linn Slassik Music. I connected the system with RF Routers as the Example 4 .The sound is more dynamic with more detail, clarity, smooth and a firmer more well defined bass. I noticed big improvements. A perfect upgrade for my Linn LK systems.

"It Works"
Yep, it does work. The difference is not huge and, I guess, may differ depending on the system and mains. In my setup it resulted in a subjectively calmer, slightly cleaner sound and, unexpectedly, a tighter and more tuneful, detailed bass. It surprised me most, since we all know that bass is a product of a speaker-room interaction. But no, here we have the bass that is a bit better controlled and as a result subjectively goes a bit deeper. Bass drum particularly is better defined. By the end of the day it all depends on what you perceive as worthwhile improvement. The greatest benefit in my view is that in the long term the sound causes less fatigue.

"Just Finished Listening With Rf Router In Place.."
I connected my CD player, amp and headphone amp to the RF router and connected the router to my 8 way power block. What can I say? From the minute I hit play it was instant, very deep bass and a more open sound stage. Then I switched to headphones and turned it up...Loud....Totally brilliant sound, much less fatiguing as well. Fantastic! One of the best value upgrades you can do.

"Terrific Product"
I'm not as young as I was and it was a bit of a job pulling everything out and fitting the wires to the equipment cases, but it is well worth taking the trouble. Terrific improvement in clarity, soundstage, instrument definition etc. I also took the opportunity to clean the earth bonding clamps, which are found on water pipes under sinks. I hadn't cleaned these in years and they were pretty dirty and corroded. This also resulted in a noticeable improvement in clarity.

"Rf Router In An All Linn System"
I have an all Linn system fronted by an almost top specification LP12 turntable. I installed the RF Router about 2 months ago connected to an external earthing rod. I can only echo the comments made in other reviews. The sound is more dynamic with more detail and a firmer more well defined base. My system already sounded very good but the RF Router has provided improvements that would be hard to achieve even spending large sums of money on main items of equipment. Try this, you have nothing to lose.

"Excellent Upgrade"
RF Router is excellent.
Inserting the Router between the earth wires meeting starred together at the pre-amp and the dedicated earth wire really works, as per the RA straightforward instructions.
Clearer and more transparent souud just makes everyone here want to listen to more records!
Don't worry about the technicalities - it works and I've just fitted a RA Rhodium fuse which is about as close to 'no fuse' as I can expect.
Thanks!

"Go For Kimber Technical Ground Weave And Quality Banana- / Spade Plugs"
My system was allready connected to earth.

The difference was not huge, when I connected the casework / RF Router and the way further to the mains wall socket ground earth with Kimber ground wire.

The wiring diagrams / guide / shows some all too simple and theoretically connecting solutions to the hub.

Inspired by the Star Grounding Block, I purchased 7 green binding posts, drilled 4 holes in the Amplifier case, 1 hole in my DAB-radio-, my CD-player- and DVD-player case.

This time I purchased gold plated beryllium copper banana plugs / purple copper spade plug.

Wired it all up to the RF Router and further all the way to mains wall socket ground earth with Kimber Technical Ground Weave.

What a difference, the performance now fulfil Russ Andrews promises and most of my dreams.

"Essential Upgrade"
Not really expecting to hear much of an improvement, I purchased the MK 2 Router along with two technical ground weave cables and other grounding cables and connected my system up as per the instructions. I was pleasantly surprised by the difference - expanded sound stage, improved clarity and a much brighter sound overall.

"Russ Does It Again!"
Ages ago Russ suggested that connecting the cases of a Hi Fi system to ground would improve the sound. Always one to give Russ' suggestions a go, my cases were all connected the earth terminal on the RA 8 way 'toblerone' block . Definite improvement in the sound, although not as huge as I'd hoped. But I left the wiring in place and sort of forgot about it.

Then an email arrived reminding me about the importance of grounding and the RF router mark II.

60 days trial, as always, so I had to give it a go. It went in-between the wiring from the cases and the earth point on the 'toblerone' block.

This time the improvement was huge. And instant. 60 day trial? No need. 60 seconds was long enough!

The music flows more easily, is faster paced, more intelligible and much clearer. The bass is deeper, tighter and more tuneful.

Definitely worth trying one of these out. I wouldn't be without mine now.

"Big Improvement !"
Hi music lovers ! I already instaled and tested RF router MKII in my highend audio. After few seconds I could clearly listen to realy big positive change. Sound was more opened, detailed, dynamic and instruments were more natural. Bass was better defined and more solid. I can say only - you have to try it in your audio system and enjoy it.

"Remarkable"
Background hash disappears, bass tightens up, sibilance is greatly reduced. Subtle details emerge so that the recording makes much more sense. Everything improves very pleasingly, but most noteworthy is the effect upon complex symphonic music. Suddenly the work appears before you with an effortless simplicity which belies the immense effort on the part of the recording engineer to capture the sound. Highly recommended.

"Excellent Upgrade..."
I purchased the MK 2 router with a couple of technical ground weave cables and other grounding cables for a system consisting of a Nagra PL-P pre, Chord SPM 1200 MK2 and Linn Akurate DS.
I had already hooked up everything with Reference power cables into a Power Block with separate mains circuit and consumer unit.
A PS Power Plant Premier provides a regenerated power supply.
Given the attention to power I did not expect the RF Router and the equipment grounding to make much of an improvement but happily I was proved very wrong.
This should be considered an essential upgrade if you want a more relaxed and musical outcome from your system.
Highly recommended....

"RF Router In A Naim System"
It took a while to connect all the pieces together, CD player, DAC, pre and power amp to a RA Supersocket but what a surprise I got when I switched everything back on. Boom it was gone! That tendency to bass boominess at times that I had put down to the suspended wooden floor wasn't there. Instead there was at times abdomen vibrating CD case rattling bass but always with real texture. Separate voices were easier to identify and as a previous reviewer mentioned the piano sounded more natural and was easier to pick out in the overall mix. The human voice too sounded more natural and with less of an edge sometimes.

It must be borne in mind that this upgrade was not done in isolation. I had already replaced all the mains cables with RA ones several years ago and more recently added superfuses too. The interconnects are either Tellurium Q Black or KCAG and the speaker leads are also Tellurium Q Blacks. All unused sockets have RA blankers and the unused outputs have Mini Zapperators in them.

"Worth Every Penny."
I bought the MkII router along with the necessary extras for my CD based system. I've found that the brain, and ears, easily accept and appreciate improvements: so it's only when those improvements are removed that you really notice the difference, and the RF Router system is one of those. Because it's so easy to do an A/B comparison, you are left in no doubt what a positive impact the Router System has. A previous reviewer has pretty much covered it, but I also found the reduction in noise floor very tangible, as was the benefit to timing and pace (taking the RF system out made things sound 'slower' and 'duller'). More detail, better instrumental presentation, better tonality, pretty much better all-round. I've never some 'live' CDs sound so vital and involving.

IMO, if you're going to do this (and I think it's easily worth the cost) go the whole hog and, for the sake of a few extra quid, go with the technical ground weave.
