As with many of Kimber's iconic interconnects, like Silver Streak and Timbre, HC-3 does not use an outer sheath. In the context of headphone listening, this has two distinct advantages.
- First, the woven design ensures the cable is more flexible. This can be a problem with normal cables and is one of the reasons that headphones tend to be supplied with thinner cables - it means they are flexible in use but it's often at the expense of ultimate sound quality; HC-3 solves the problem.
- Secondly, eliminating the outer sheath of the previous model has dramatically reduced the cable's microphinic properties. Our former model sounded good but it did have a tendency to amplify noise if you moved or touched it. The latest version eliminates the need for the additional covering and uses a softer insulation to mitigate unwanted microphonics.
