Russ Andrews Network Purifier

Network Purifier is our new ethernet filter, designed to be used with streaming and computer audio - and video - systems.

Typically used between an internet router, or network switch, and your wired streamer or endpoint, it uses MiniZap™ technology to filter noise from ethernet signals. This helps to deliver a cleaner, clearer sound, better pictures, with more information and more of a sense of the performance from your recordings.

R&D Process

We started with a clean sheet when developing the Network Purifier. What became clear was that, by leveraging the high performance of our unique MiniZap circuits, we had a filter that could target the very high frequency noise present on a wired ethernet network – the sort of RF noise that could come from a wireless computer network or mobile phones, for example.

As with our other filters, Network Purifier is a passive, parallel design, though in this case, no mains power is required.

It has a data rate of up to 1 Gigabit per second, meaning there’s no lag when playing high data-rate audio or video files.

It uses a total of eight separate MiniZap filters to condition all eight ethernet conductors and the circuit board itself is specced with heavy-gauge, pure copper tracks with a gold immersion finish to protect against oxidation.

The two Category 6 gigabit ethernet sockets are fully shielded and, like everything we sell, have been tested for performance and sound quality.

The enclosure is an in-house designed, high-performance thermoplastic. From the very beginning, we chose to use modern plastics for the enclosure based on our extensive knowledge of these materials and their acoustic properties. A number of designs were produced in-house using our 3D printer to optimise the design.

Using the Network Purifier

One or more Network Purifiers can be used in a computer-based audio or media system; if using one, we recommend fitting it close to your streamer or endpoint; keep the cable coming from it going into your component as short as possible.

Additional Network Purifiers can be used, if wanted, between a network attached storage (NAS) and an ethernet switch, between a computer server and switch, and between a router and switch. The illustration below shows how it can be incorporated into a typical system.

Grounding

Each Network Purifier has a 4mm ground socket, making it easy to incorporate into the Russ Andrews Grounding System for additional performance benefits.

Who it’s for

Anyone who values getting the very best performance from a network based system.

We designed Network Purifier to deliver extremely effective filtering when incorporated into any system with a wired music or media streamer: from lower-cost streamers, internet radios and Apple TVs to high-end audio endpoints and movie players and streamers. It can also be used with computer networks, and in systems that rely on RJ45 connectivity – such as with Meridian’s DSP loudspeakers (see below).

Like our RANS-1 network switch, we believe it’s an essential component in a computer-based audio and video system.

Meridian SpeakerLink Compatible

Modern Meridian Audio hardware relies on a proprietary SpeakerLink connection to communicate between devices such as DSP loudspeakers, streamers, processors and other hardware using just a single cable between each product. SpeakerLink relies on the CAT5/6/7 RJ45 connection interface.

We have fully tested Network Purifier with a host of SpeakerLink-enabled products and can confirm its compatibility and the improvement in sound quality.
